At Aveton Gifford C. of E. (V.C.) Primary School, we currently offer residential experiences for all children in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The aims of these visits are:
In previous years we have joined the children from Salcombe Primary School for residential trips. The children from Years 5 and 6 have been on an action-packed trip to London for a 2 night/3 day break where they visited the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament and saw a production of the musical 'The Lion King'!. Years 3 and 4 went on an adventure-filled trip to the Start Bay Centre where they went orienteering, enjoyed a midnight walk and took part in team challenges.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children have also stayed at Barton Hall, a PGL Centre, which is in the heart of the English Riviera and close to Dartmoor. Here the children enjoyed activities such as the Zip Wire, Abseiling, Fencing, Quad Biking, Dry Slope ski-ing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking and the Climbing Wall. Please take a look at some of the photos on this page and also on the Swans Class Page.
Our Year 3 and Year 4 children stayed at the Heatree Centre in Manadon where canoeing, raft building and forest skills were the order of the day! For more photos, please take a look at our Class pages.
All of the Key Stage 2 children have enjoyed action-packed, Forest Skills Residential trips with 'Forest and Beach' a member of the Forest Schools Association based at Beeson near Beesands. They all had a great time taking part in activities such as paddle-boarding with 'Singing Paddles', a visit to the Start Point lighthouse, shelter building, outdoor cooking, nature surveys, bat walks, beach based activities and evening meals at '@Britannia on the beach'.
In 2017 our Year 5 and Year 6 children will be returning to the PGL centre at Barton Hall to take part in another fun-filled week there whilst our Year 3 and 4 children will be joining Salcombe Primary School again for their residential trip. This time they will be going on a 'Wild Night Out'!
As a 'taster' residential we are making plans for the Year 2 children to experience a one night 'Sleep-over' in school during the summer term of 2017.
