Our Year 5 and 6 children travelled to the Tesco store in Kingsbridge today to take part in an educational 'Farm to Fork' visit. The children were escorted through the various departments where food production was explained to them. The children were divided into three groups in order for them to collate and analyse data for produce from the store's 'Basic' range, the store's 'Everyday' range and well-known brands of food. The stop-off at the bakery section proved to be particularly popular with doughnuts all round and we're not sure who counted the grains of sugar on the top of them!
On their return to school the children were able to use the information they had collected from the trip in their 'Data Handling' Maths lesson as part of our second 'Messy Maths Week'.
We are very grateful to Sue Durrant for organising the trip for us and to Mr Lloyd and Mrs Ponting for accompanying the staff and children. Our Years 2, 3 and 4 are looking forward to their visit on Tuesday.
